Not sure if blowing an item that has radiation coming from it is that good of an idea.
Well, the radiation stops pretty much as soon as it blows up, so no big deal there.
I’d have to go with idiot just for the legal reasons. You can certainly go to jail or prison for this. Even though it’s in his own garage, it’s still creating an explosive device. The BATF takes a pretty dim view of such activities.

Can you say improvised explosive device? And yes, the BATF and HS will put you in a hole so deep, you’ll have to have sunlight pumped in.
