Have all these idiots never heard of an inverter?
That HAS to cost more than just getting the AC fixed.
People are so spoiled thes days. I used the classic “460″ air conditioning, for most of my life.
inverters are not good for electric motors, because most make square-based waves, not sine waves
You can get sine wave inverters but remember that the trucks alternator won’t have enough current to operate the truck AND the A/C.
That is easily cheaper than many A/C repairs. These days a replacement compressor and freon fill (old R12 is real expensive now too) can run close to $1800, maybe a little bit less since a pickup is easier to work on under the hood with more spare room, but to put it in perspective a brand new windows A/C is $100 and a generator about $200, with the truck owner probably either owning both items already or finding them cheap used.
It just looks like crap and you can’t see out the rear window now, BUT if you have to drive somewhere in a worthless truck and it’s so hot that it effects your health or safety, that trashrepair is better than nothing.
