Bubba Airlines….
Who knew that Bubba was into planes. Holy crap how bad would you freak if you saw duct tape on the planes wing? I mean this on the part of the wings (the flaps) that you can’t see prior to taking off. At times like this you read the plane crash manual.

No freakin way! That can’t be legal can it?
It’s not duct tape. It’s speed tape and it’s very common with airlines as long as it’s used within the aircraft maintenance manual.
i believe that is just a patch to the de-icing system (the black stripe). now ianap (i am not a pilot), but…
pretty sure that is not wally world duct tape either, but patching material for just such an occasion.
That is probably speed tape, and like stated before is legal if used per the maintenance manual. That black strip however is just paint or a rubberized material to protect the surface. It is not a part of a de-icing system. The flap does not require de-icing in flight. And most transport category jets use metal leading edges that use hot engine bleed air to heat the surface from within and prevent most ice from accumulating during flight.
that is balls to the wall wicked, hi liz
Yah this is without doubt not a problem. Sure it looks like it is but it’s not. My guess it that it’s probably a south American airline such as Aerocondor just because of my personal observations of such airlines and because of the bad publicity this would get in the US…
That is what is referred to as “high speed tape”. It basically a metal tape, and is used frequently in aircraft maintenance when there isnt time for a permanant fix. that wont be there forever, just till they can take it to a depot to fix it. thats some awesome stuff too!
Yeah but when put on a flight critical part its always a reposition aircraft to get it home and fix it. Its aluminum tape is what it is, made my 3M. Im an aircraft mechanic, When i worked for the airlines and i had to go to outstations to fix planes i always keep speed tape in my tool bag. you would be amazed the things your allowed to use it on. Put it on a plane once to cover the a hole the size of a football in the side of a fuselage. A fuel truck backed into it. Covered it up and flew it home. No passengers just to get it home tear it apart and install a doubler.
Not really a problem area because once the flaps are pulled up the taped area will be inside the wing. And they did clean off the crud before they applied the tape. Now get that plane to a wash rack!
